Best Hip Hop Songs 2018

Best Hip Hop Songs of 2018- Track Reviews & Lyrics

2018 was a banger in terms of hip hop music, so many songs and albums were released, so many good hip hop tracks. Songs with good lyrics, songs with good momentum, it’s was just an amazing year for hip hop songs. With a pool of that many dope songs, it gets very hard to pick out the best hip hop songs of 2018- but we still managed to make up our minds. Below are the songs that we think had most influence on the public, because music is all about that, no?

It’s about influence, it’s about affecting others for good, it’s about promoting love, it’s about Peace. If there wasn’t hip hop music today, I don’t know where would be. It’s a blessing and these hip hop artists are some of the best humans for they provide us melodies that may mend our hearts. Hip hop songs that may cheer us up, make us reconcile with others, provide us with the fuel to keep pushing.

Music doesn’t doesn’t have to be songs, no no, music can be just listening to plain piano or violin, or to some kick-ass soundtrack to a movie ( I personally like the “interstellar” soundtrack). So music isn’t just about songs, It’s a whole lot more.

Anyway, right here we’ll discuss some of the best hip hop songs of 2018, something that we feel are the best for 2018 among the pool of many other great songs. So, let’s get started….

#1. “Gods Plan” by Drake

Top Albums on itunes

Ah, Drake. Although he is widely criticized for the kind of music he makes or maybe because of some other reason that we really don’t know. Regardless, you have got to agree with me that the Scorpion Album, which included “Gods Plan“, was one of the greatest albums there. According to Variety, “Gods Plan” was the top song of the year with a total consumption of 5.5 million. Let me tell that you that it all started with a leaked snippet of Gods Plan.

To add a more spikey fact to Gods Plan, according to Spotify, “Gods Plan” was the top streamed hip hop song out of the years most popular workout tunes. Spotify releases the list every year and this time Gods Plan topped it. So, well, people listened to it while getting pumped, and we would definitely have to agree. It is an energetic and fun song to listen to… I’ll never get bored with this masterpiece.

According to the “top workout songs” list released by Spotify, “Gods Plan” topped it, which was followed by “I like it” by Cardi B, then Eminem’s “Till I Collapse”, followed by Drake’s “Nice for what”, and then other songs followed. Do know that this list was for the most streamed workout songs on Spotify.

This is a big part of why we think that Gods Plan had to be the best hip hop song for us in 2018.

“Gods Plan” Lyrics

Yeah they wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’
They wishin’ on me, yuh
I been movin’ calm, don’t start no trouble with me
Tryna keep it peaceful is a struggle for me
Don’t pull up at 6 AM to cuddle with me
You know how I like it when you lovin’ on me
I don’t wanna die for them to miss me
Yes I see the things that they wishin’ on me
Hope I got some brothers that outlive me
They gon’ tell the story, shit was different with me
God’s plan, God’s plan
I hold back, sometimes I won’t, yuh
I feel good, sometimes I don’t, ay, don’t
I finessed down Weston Road, ay, ‘nessed
Might go down a G.O.D., yeah, wait
I go hard on Southside G, yuh, Way
I make sure that north-side eat
And still
Bad things
It’s a lot of bad things
That they wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’
They wishin’ on me
Bad things
It’s a lot of bad things
That they wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’
They wishin’ on me
Yuh, ay, ay
She say, “Do you love me?” I tell her, “Only partly”
I only love my bed and my momma, I’m sorry
Fifty Dub, I even got it tatted on me
81, they’ll bring the crashers to the party
And you know me
Turn the O2 into the O3, dog
Without 40, Oli’, there’d would be no me
Imagine if I never met the broskies
God’s plan, God’s plan
I can’t do this on my own, ay, no, ay
Someone watchin’ this shit close, yep, close
I’ve been me since Scarlett Road, ay, road, ay
Might go down as G.O.D., yeah, wait
I go hard on Southside G, ay, Way
I make sure that north-side eat, yuh
And still
Bad things
It’s a lot of bad things
That they wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’
They wishin’ on me
Yeah, yeah
Bad things
It’s a lot of bad things
That they wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’
They wishin’ on me
Yeah

#2. “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott ft. Drake

You must have listened to the song, right? If you haven’t, go listen to it now.

If we say 2018 was the year that made Travis Scott finally a full superstar then we would say that this song had a lot to do with it. You can’t stop listening to “Sicko Mode” if you have listened to it once, it will almost definitely get stuck on repeat. It is one of the best original hip hop songs of 2018. Instrumentally, if you look at “Sicko mode“, it’s three songs in one and the guy who could pull it off was Travis Scott. The song even got a remix by Skrillex!

This is why 2018 had to be the year for Travis to become a complete singer/musician because that kind of composition in a song is very hard to pull off. This composition works well because of the sense of lyrical balance that Scott has. He has the confident ability to ride the song without disrupting the momentum or the course of the instrumental, every note or every moment of the song is hit with a different dimension and yet it remains balanced the whole way through.

This is why we think that Sicko Mode had to be the second best hip hop song in 2018.

“Sicko Mode” Lyrics

Astro, yeah
Sun is down, freezin’ cold
That’s how we already know winter’s here
My dawg would prolly do it for a Louis belt
That’s just all he know, he don’t know nothin’ else
I tried to show ’em, yeah
I tried to show ’em, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Gone on you with the pick and roll
Young LaFlame, he in sicko mode
Woo, made this here with all the ice on in the booth
At the gate outside, when they pull up, they get me loose
Yeah, Jump Out boys, that’s Nike boys, hoppin’ out coupes
This shit way too big, when we pull up give me the loot
(Gimme the loot!)
Was off the Remy, had a Papoose
Had to hit my old town to duck the news
Two-four hour lockdown, we made no moves
Now it’s 4AM and I’m back up poppin’ with the crew
I just landed in, Chase B mixes pop like Jamba Juice
Different colored chains, think my jeweler really sellin’ fruits
And they chokin’, man, know the crackers wish it was a noose
Some-some-some, someone said
To win the retreat, we all in too deep
P-p-playin’ for keeps, don’t play us for weak (someone said)
To win the retreat, we all in too deep
P-p-playin’ for keeps, don’t play us for weak (yeah)
This shit way too formal, y’all know I don’t follow suit
Stacey Dash, most of these girls ain’t got a clue
All of these hoes I made off records I produced
I might take all my exes and put ’em all in a group
Hit my esés, I need the bootch
‘Bout to turn this function to Bonnaroo
Told her, “Hop in, you comin’ too”
In the 305, bitches treat me like I’m Uncle Luke
(Don’t stop, pop that pussy!)
Had to slop the top off, it’s just a roof (uh)
She said, “Where we goin’?” I said, “The moon”
We ain’t even make it to the room
She thought it was the ocean, it’s just the pool
Now I got her open, it’s just the Goose
Who put this shit together? I’m the glue (someone said)
Shorty FaceTimed me out the blue
Someone said (Playin’ for keeps)
Someone said, motherfuck what someone said
(Don’t play us for weak)
Yeah
Astro
Yeah, yeah
Tay Keith, fuck these niggas up (Ay, ay)
She’s in love with who I am
Back in high school, I used to bus it to the dance (yeah)
Now I hit the FBO with duffles in my hands
I did half a Xan, thirteen hours ’til I land
Had me out like a light, ayy, yeah
Like a light, ayy, yeah
Like a light, ayy
Slept through the flight, ayy
Knocked for the night, ayy, 767, man
This shit got double bedroom, man
I still got scores to settle, man
I crept down the block (down the block), made a right (yeah, right)
Cut the lights (yeah, what?), paid the price (yeah)
Niggas think it’s sweet (nah, nah), it’s on sight (yeah, what?)
Nothin’ nice (yeah), baguettes in my ice (aww, man)
Jesus Christ (yeah), checks over stripes (yeah)
That’s what I like (yeah), that’s what we like (yeah)
Lost my respect, you not a threat
When I shoot my shot, that shit wetty like I’m Sheck (bitch!)
See the shots that I took (ayy), wet like I’m Book (ayy)
Wet like I’m Lizzie, I be spinnin’ Valley
Circle blocks ’til I’m dizzy (yeah, what?)
Like where is he? (Yeah, what?)
No one seen him (yeah, yeah)
I’m tryna clean ’em (yeah)
She’s in love with who I am
Back in high school, I used to bus it to the dance
Now I hit the FBO with duffles in my hand (woo!)
I did half a Xan, thirteen hours ’til I land
Had me out like a light, like a light
Like a light, like a light
Like a light (yeah), like a light
Like a light
Yeah, passed the dawgs a celly
Sendin’ texts, ain’t sendin’ kites, yeah
He said, “Keep that on lock”
I said, “You know this shit, it’s life”, yeah
It’s absolute (yeah), I’m back reboot (it’s lit!)
LaFerrari to Jamba Juice, yeah (skrrt, skrrt)
We back on the road, they jumpin’ off, no parachute, yeah
Shawty in the back
She said she workin’ on her glutes, yeah (oh my God)
Ain’t by the book, yeah
This how it look, yeah
‘Bout a check, yeah
Just check the foots, yeah
Pass this to my daughter, I’ma show her what it took (yeah)
Baby mama cover Forbes, got these other bitches shook, yeah

#3. “This is America” by Donald Glover

Donald Glover was back at it with one of the best hip hop songs in 2018. “This is America” is what he pictures America as of now, although some may disagree with this song it still is one of the best songs in 2018. Donald Glover is an award-winning writer, an actor, a singer, and a rapper as well who dominated the internet with his musical creativity and politically filled song “This is America“. This song has forced us to take what we want to take from it, it’s a song that makes people speak with different opinions and hence it picked the hype and momentum.

In the video of the song, just when you are building the momentum of the song, Donald Glover does some graphic violence that spreads all your attention away to something else and then it goes again like this, you do have to know that the video song of “This is America” does have some Graphic violence, so you may choose if you want to or don’t want to watch the video.

Donald Glover wrapped up some of the most hurting and saddening events in the history of America and that is why this song was pushed to the extreme limits, gained its popularity and its momentum. If we talk about the lyrics, then the song This is America too is very strong in the lyrics game as well.

All in all, Donald Glover, as usual, released a masterpiece and he is now tasting the fruits of his hard work.
